The Risk of Mesotherapy

Proponents of Mesotherapy emphasize that risks of treatment are minimized because lower doses of compounds are injected into a relatively small area. However, there are certain known and potentially unknown risks associated with Mesotherapy.

The majority of known Mesotherapy Risks are in and around the injection site. Skin may become pigmented or scarred, and these changes may not fade with time. Other changes, such as swelling, pain and bruising, typically subside after treatment. In some people, a severe local reaction to substances injected may result in ulceration and subsequent scarring. There may also be a systemic and potentially life-threatening allergic reaction to injected drugs. Infections due to poor injection practices are often reported among patients of unlicensed Mesotherapy practitioners. These infections may require treatment with expensive antibiotics.

There is some concern in the medical community that several compounds commonly used in Mesotherapy have unproven benefits and unknown risks. There are many Internet sites that sell such compounds. However, most of them are located overseas and are therefore outside the jurisdiction of the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The purity of compounds sold by such sites cannot be verified. To date, the FDA has not approved any compound for use in Mesotherapy, even if such a compound is approved for other uses. Additionally, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons does not endorse Mesotherapy because it is not a scientifically proven method.

Many Mesotherapy treatments require ongoing maintenance, and the costs involved in such maintenance therapy may be underestimated initially. This can be a financial risk because Mesotherapy is not covered by health insurance plans. There may also be emotional risks, particularly with treatments that require adherence to a diet and exercise plan. If such a plan is not followed, the body may revert to its pre-Mesotherapy appearance, causing stress.

What is Mesotherapy ?

Mesotherapy is a form of treatment that involves injecting tiny amounts of a substance into the mesoderm, which is the layer of fat and connective tissue directly below the skin. It is thought that the injection of certain substances can either dissolve underlying fat, or cause healing by other mechanisms. Mesotherapy has been used in France and other European countries since the middle of the 20th century to treat conditions such as obesity, hair loss, sports injuries, and certain diseases of the circulation. It has only recently caught on in the US as a form of treatment for cellulite and localized fat.

The exact substance injected under the skin depends on what condition is being treated. Natural compounds, synthetic drugs, local anesthetics, and vitamins may be injected; these are thought to dissolve underlying fat and thereby cause weight loss. A tiny needle is used to inject the substance, making this a less painful treatment than conventional injections with larger needles. Multiple treatment sessions are usually needed. A single session may cost up to $600 or more, and may include special diet and exercise plans.

At present, Mesotherapy is considered a form of alternative medicine in the United States, and is somewhat controversial. Mesotherapy practitioners and patients often claim excellent weight loss results in as little as four or five treatment sessions. However, Mesotherapy treatments are empiric, and currently lack concrete scientific evidence of how exactly they work. Critics of Mesotherapy are unsure whether the weight loss reported by advocates is attributable to the treatment itself or to lifestyle changes.

In the US, the practice of Mesotherapy is largely restricted to trained and licensed physicians, such as plastic surgeons. However, no license is currently required to be a mesotherapist. It is therefore important for anyone considering Mesotherapy to find out what substance is being injected, how many treatments are required, and what potential side effects may occur.

Treatment Options For Skin Cancer

I know this blog should be all about beauty secrets and tips, I just came across with this article. Its interesting to know.

Most people are unable to treat skin cancer on time because they do not come to know that they have skin cancer. Certain outgrowths, moles and discoloration on the skin are taken as normal skin problems. When someone is confirmed about his or her illness related to skin cancer, the panic starts.

However, there is absolutely no need to panic about skin cancer as there are a lot of treatments available.

First and foremost, you need to speak to your skin doctor to determine the actual problem you are suffering from. Your physicians would like to take details regarding a lot of events related to you such as your age, medical history, extent of the disease, tolerance for a certain medication, therapy or procedure and your overall opinion for the problem that exists.

- There are many treatment options available for skin cancer. Here is a list of some great treatment options which will be considered:

a) Surgery

b) Radiation therapy

c) Electrochemo therapy

d) Immunotherapy

e) Hyperthermia

f) Photodynamic therapy

g) Nutritional therapy

h) Pain management

i) Naturopathy

j) Psycho-neuroimmunology

k) Spiritual support therapy

l) Biological therapy

Let us discuss the therapies mentioned above in detail:

a) Surgery

Surgery is the oldest existing form of treatment for skin cancer. The treatment eliminates the tumor as well as certain adjacent healthy tissues. This stops the cancer from spreading further. Some doctors also use skin peel such as the TCA skin peel that has been quite effective in treating skin cancer.

There are different types of surgeries used to treat skin cancer such as cryosurgery, electro-desiccation and curettage, grafting, laser therapy, Mohs micrographic surgery, simple excision. Cryosurgery is used to freeze the tumor. This helps in exterminating cancer cells. Electro-desiccation and curettage burns the lesion and eliminates it with a sharp instrument. Grafting is another type of surgery where a skin graft is used to replace damaged skin while removing the cancer.

The Mohs micrographic surgery is helpful in removing the cancer. A microscope is used to inspect the cancerous area in order to ensure that none of the cancer cells are present. The process of simple excision cutting the cancer from the skin and some of the healthy tissue round it.

b) Radiation therapy

This is a therapy that emits X-rays in order to exterminate cancer cells and also to shrink tumors. The therapy is conducted with the help of a radiation machine. It can be applied to any part of the body successfully to get good results.

c) Electro-chemotherapy

This therapy uses a combination of chemotherapy as well as electrical pulses in order to treat cancer.

d) Chemotherapy

This therapy for skin cancer treats by providing several cancer fighting drugs in the body. These drugs tend to exterminate cancer cells via hampering their development and regeneration.

e) Immunotherapy

It treats skin cancer via enhancing the immune system of the body with certain doses of tumor vaccines, interferon-Alfa and interleukins-2.

f) Photo-dynamic therapy

It is a new cancer therapy. An injection of photofrin is given to the patient once the cancer cell is subject to a laser beam.

Natural Steps to Slow Down Aging

You maybe old but you can still look and feel young.

As a culture, we will do anything not to age. We have become obsessed with looking young. Looking on the beauty isle, you will see that millions of dollars are spent every year by women and men desperate to hide any signs of aging.

There are steps we can take; natural steps that will help camouflage the signs of aging. While we cannot stop the aging process, we can slow down the marks that it leaves on our skins and body. The younger we are when we start to care for our bodies the less the ravages of time will show on our outward appearance.

Getting enough sleep will improve your outlook on life. It also improves the way you look. Avoiding droopy tired eyes with dark circles will give you a younger, healthier look. Getting enough sleep will also help your stress levels. Stress will prematurely age even the best of us.

Exercise will help you combat the enemy of age. Keeping healthy muscles and bones, will keep you sitting up straighter and moving better as you get older. It will improve your outlook on life as well, giving you a more youthful attitude.

Take care of your skin. Healthy skin is associated with being young in our society. Drinking plenty of water and getting the vitamins and minerals that you need, will help your skin stay younger looking longer. Take in plenty of whole, unprocessed foods. Ensure you have plenty of healthy fats in your diet as well. Fish, nuts and whole grains will help you feel healthy and young inside and out.

Act young. It is all in the attitude. One of the best natural ways to look young is to feel young. Do things, fall in love, learn to ski, just get out there and move. You can do all the right things physically, but if your mental state is feeling old, you will look old. Your attitude will get you far.

What Are The Differences Between Tummy Tuck, Body Lift, And Paniculectomy?

Tummy Tuck only corrects the looseness and redundancy of the abdomen. Body Lift combines a Tummy Tuck with the lifting and tightening of the redundant back skin folds, the sagging buttocks and the outer thighs.

Therefore, a Body Lift is a more extensive procedure, with the goal of lifting and tightening the entire lower body. Most people with loose abdominal skin or even with some sagging of the buttocks can be treated with an extended Tummy Tuck or a High Tension Tummy Tuck. For those who, as a result of massive weight loss, develop an abundance of lower body skin excess with sagging of the buttocks and outer thighs are better served with a Body Lift.

Is the Incision for a Body Lift Larger than for Abdominoplasty?

The incision of a body lift extends farther than the incision for Abdominoplasty – past the hips to the back, like a belt. Because of this some people call a Body Lift a “Belt Lipectomy.” A Belt Lipectomy, however, does not lift the buttock and only removes excess skin folds.

What is the Difference Between Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck) and Panniculectomy? Panniculectomy is similar to Abdominoplasty in that it removes excessive abdominal skin. More specifically, Panniculectomy is designed for those with an extremely large hanging panus or “spare tire”. On the other hand, Tummy Tuck is for those who having excess loose skin, but not a spare tire. Unlike a Tummy Tuck, Panniculectomy does not tighten the abdominal wall, narrow the waistline, or tighten the upper thighs. Panniculectomy only removes the “spare tire”.
